Detailed Description...

Madagascar Palm
Pachypodium lamerei

Native to Madagascar, this rare, fast growing succulent has a thick trunk with leaves at the top, resembling a palm tree. Despite the common name “Madagascar Palm”, it is not really a palm - it just looks like one. In fact, it is in the cactus and succulent category, which are some of the easiest plants of all to grow - decent food and minimal water is all this plant needs. However, unlike most succulents, it is quite a fast grower and can grow more than 12" in a single year and can eventually reach 18 feet high! Grown as a potted plant they will not become so large. They also make wonderful and unique bonsai. A large mature plant will produce beautiful 2-3" waxy white and fragrant flowers that actually look similar to the shape and color of the white Plumeria. The Madagascar Palm is loaded with wonderful features and is an absolute delight to own. Despite its exotic origins, it is surprisingly easy to grow from seed, often germinating in about a week, with minimal care thereafter. Hardy in zones 9-11, they make for wonderful container specimens and houseplants in colder zones.
