Castor Bean Collection - 4 Varieties (SAVE 45%)

Castor Bean plants have been grown for a long time - its seeds have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 4000 B.C. This is one of the fastest-growing, giant annuals in the garden, rivaled only by giant sunflowers. By midsummer, you will have huge tropical plants that are impressive in groups or statuesque and appealing alone. Easy and fun to grow, this collection is for one packet each of four (4) varieties:
  • Zanzi Palm
  • Gibsonii
  • Impala
  • Zanzibariensis

Zanzi Palm

One of the larger and more spectacular versions of castor bean varieties. It sports large, architectural green leaves that span up to 2 feet wide. Growing 8-12' in a single season, it is a splendid specimen for the back of the border and perfect for large pots, a tall hedge, or as a specimen plant.
Gibsonii

This heirloom variety has eye-catching large reddish-tinged foliage and bright red seed pods. Unlike the giant varieties which grow over 10' high, this variety will generally grow to about 4-6' and don't overpower other plants in the garden. They also have a better branching habit than most castor bean plant types.
Impala

This less common “dwarf type” castor bean plant will make a unique and tropical addition to any garden. Impala does not get quite as gigantic as typical castor beans, normally maxing out at about 4-5' high. New leaves start out with a deep burgundy colour and age through a wonderful metallic tone to almost green at the finish.
Zanzibariensis

The giant zanzibariensis castor bean will definitely add a tropical look to your garden or patio. Largest of all the castor bean species, these are extremely fast growing plants and can grow 15+ feet in a single season! Its huge umbrella-sized leaves can span up to 3 feet wide, and the stalks can be up to 6 inches thick.
