Shrub Rose Collection - 4 Hardy Varieties (SAVE 40%)

Old fashion shrub roses are pure roses of nature and are the genetic building blocks for all modern roses. They evolved in response to specific climatic conditions, which generally gives them superior hardiness and disease tolerance. Old shrub roses are easily grown and little pruning is required beyond the removal of weak or old twiggy growth, and if necessary the shortening of shoots to shape the plant. They have a variety of garden uses, from wild gardens to mixed shrubberies. The selections offered here are hardy and highly disease resistant - Father Hugo Rose, Father David's Rose, Japanese Red Rose and Japanese White Rose.

Father Hugo Rose
Rosa hugonis

Rosa hugonis earns its space in the garden with its early bloom, lovely color and graceful habit. It is one of the earliest of the shrub roses to bloom in spring. The plant will be literally covered with hundreds of 2 inch blossoms in a lovely shade of soft yellow. Under favorable growing conditions, Rosa hugonis can reach a height of about 6 feet and nearly as broad. The foliage turns a lovely deep red in the fall making it an attractive fall specimen. Hardy in Zones 4-9.
Father David's Rose
Rosa davidii

Father David's Rose is a lovely shrub rose with soft, scented pink flowers. Slightly later flowering than most shrub rose varieties, blooms begin in late June or early July and are followed by plump red rose hips. An upright and vigorous growing variety to approximately 10' high and 5' wide. These make wonderful hedges and look great in a mixed shrub border or grow them as a specimen plant. Hardy in Zones 5-9.
Red Japanese Rose
Rosa rugosa 'rubra'

A
very hardy rose that is native to Japan and eastern Siberia. Is a vigorous growing shrub up to 6 feet in height and has gorgeous 4 inch scented flowers which are produced from June to September. It is actually one of the few species roses to re-bloom. Blooms are followed by large orange-red hips, many the size and color of cherry tomatoes. The hips are highly ornamental and persist on the plant well into winter, and may be used to make jelly, rose-hip syrup and even homemade wine. Hardy in Zones 2-9.
White Japanese Rose
Rosa rugosa 'alba'

This variety
has all the pleasing attributes and hardiness of the red variety described above but has pure white blooms. Size and vigor are the same as described above. These look great planted alongside Rosa rugosa rubra for a flowering display spring through fall. Hardy in Zones 2-9.
