Giant Dracaena 'Purple' - Cornish Palm
Cordyline australis purpurea

This upright, palm-like tree has handsome, broad purple leaves and is a wonderful alternative to the more common green foliage variety. It goes by many names including Giant Dracaena, New Zealand Cabbage Palm and Cornish Palm Tree. Despite the reference to palms, Cordyline is not a true palm, but gives a tropical "false palm" effect. It is an evergreen shrub that will grow 20-30' tall in frost-free climates but are most often seen as smaller specimen potted plants grown outside in summer or inside as year round houseplants. These are fast-growing and easy to cultivate plants that are low maintenance and long lived. Its ability to tolerate abuse and low light make them appealing to many home owners.
