Calico Flower ~ Dutchman's Pipe

Owing to its unique s-curved tubular shape that is flared at the mouth resembling a 19th century Dutch pipe, this native to Brazil is often referred to as Dutchman’s pipe. The inner portion of the bloom is covered with a purplish-brown pattern that is reminiscent of calico fabric - hence the name Calico flower. In addition to its unique blooms, this neat vine is also highly regarded for its dense, attractive foliage. 50+ Seeds.

Calico Flower ~ Dutchman's Pipe
Aristolochia elegans

Owing to its unique s-curved tubular shape that is flared at the mouth resembling a 19th century Dutch pipe, this native to Brazil is often referred to as Dutchman’s pipe. The inner portion of the bloom is covered with a purplish-brown pattern that is reminiscent of calico fabric - hence the name Calico flower. In addition to its unique blooms, this neat vine is also highly regarded for its dense, attractive foliage. The bright green heart-shaped leaves are about 3" long by 2" wide and grow closely together to create a dense mass of foliage that is especially useful for covering fences or growing on a trellis. Plants are easy and fast to grow, even in relatively poor soil, and will grow to about 10-20' high. It as an evergreen vine hardy to zone 9, a perennial in zone 8 and can easily be grown as an annual in colder zones. This robust vine also does well in containers with regular watering and can be grown as an inside potted plant.
