Detailed Description...

Beautyberry
Callicarpa dichotoma

Many gardeners grow plants for their flowers but when a plant produces berries as pretty as those on Beautyberry, it is worth a spot in the garden. A native of China and Japan, Beautyberry is a small, rounded, deciduous shrub which typically grows 2-4 feet tall and is primarily included in the landscape for its showy fall display of lilac-violet fruit. The flowers are fairly insignificant but these give way to fruits that are borne like clusters of jewels above the foliage and make a spectacular display in early winter, staying on the bush right through until early spring. This is a low maintenance shrub that quickly grows in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Easy to grow from seed, this striking specimen shrub is hardy in zones 5-8.
