Candelabra Bush, also known as 'Empress Candle Plant' or even 'Candle Bush' is a large shrub from Argentina. A great butterfly attraction, they produce from late summer to fall, large spikes of golden-yellow flowers that look like golden candles when covered with unopened flower buds. Plants have handsome foliage and grow rapidly in full sun on a wide range of soils, and may eventually reach a height of 10 to 15 feet with an equal spread. They are an attractive specimen shrub or small tree if properly trained. It is a tropical plant and can only be grown outside year round in the warmer zones of 10-11, where they become huge specimens. In colder zones they are best treated as an annual or grow as a dramatic houseplant. Easy from seed, these mature quickly and will flower the first year. If you want to make a bold statement in your garden then few plants rival the Candelabra Bush.
