Scarlet Milkweed
Asclepias curassavica

This native to tropical South America also goes by numerous other names, including bloodflower, silkweed and Indian root. Perfect for the butterfly garden, Scarlet Milkweed is an absolute magnet for butterflies and other nectar loving species. Blooming continuously from spring until autumn, its red-orange flowers stand out nicely against the dark green foliage. These erect 2-3' high plants are ideal grown in mass or squeezed in among other perennials and shrubs where it be counted on to show off its pretty flowers. This plant is easy to grow and will grow quickly from seed, thriving in dry, moist, and even wet soils. While an evergreen that is hardy to zone 8, it is often grown as an annual outside, and can even make a good houseplant when grown in good light.
