Detailed Description...

Alice Sundew
Drosera aliciae

Native to the coastal mountains of South Africa, the Alice Sundew is one of the most popular and easiest to grow sundew species in cultivation. This fun-to-grow insectivorous plant can survive in nitrogen poor soils because it gets many of the nutrients it needs from insects. Small light pink flowers are produced throughout the growing season. This variety can grow up to 3" across and produces flat circular rosettes held flat to the soil. The upper surface of the leaves have a covering of sticky hairs or tentacles which are a dark pink or brilliant red, depending on the lighting conditions. The tentacles secrete a sweet sticky substance that attracts insects, which become smeared with it and unable to escape and are eventually digested by the plant. This is a perfect plant for windowsill cultivation or in a small terrarium. Hardy outside in zones 8-10.
